Here’s a letter from the 7th Earl of Traquair in October 1826 … having fun with the geography..
… It was from that forest of splendid pines that Shakespeare when he was drinking the waters at Innerleithen and composing his play of Mcbeath has in the scene of Macduff erroneously called Birnam wood near Dunsinane; instead of the Caddon Bank at the foot of the Leithen……..
